The history of Life Science Robotics

2014
The birth of an idea

The idea of ROBERT® came about an ordinary Tuesday evening where the founder, Lasse Thomsen, and his wife talked about the challenges in her work as a nurse at Aalborg University Hospital. Healthcare workers experience daily challenges as heavy lifting in relation to rehabilitation of patients.

2015
Entrepreneurial prize at CareWare fair

Robert ApS was nominated the entrepreneurial company of the year 2015 within the field of welfare innovation. The judges’ decision was based on which finalist had the most potential for growth.

2017
A growing team

Rune Kristensen came on board as CTO in 2017 along with several members, giving a huge contribution to the development of ROBERT®: Fridel Laursen as Clinical Project Manager, and Firas Amin as Lead Software Engineer.

2018
From Robert to Life Science Robotics

With a focus on expansion and internationalisation, Robert changed its name to Life Science Robotics. The name encompasses the presence of robots and the healthcare industry in the company’s DNA.

Three new professional investors also came on board in 2018. Lasse Thomsen stepped down as CEO and Keld Thorsen joined the company as new CEO and shareholder.

2018
Official CE-certification

In September 2018, the company was ISO 13485 certified and ROBERT® was approved as a Class IIa medical device in compliance with the medical device directive (93/42/EEC)

2019
International Distributors

The international network of ROBERT®’s distributors is expanding quickly. Outside Denmark, Life Science Robotics is represented in various European countries such as Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the UK.

Also, Life Science Robotics carried out the first installation in a hospital in Denmark, at Vestdansk Center for Rygmarvsskade in Viborg.

2020
Expansion on the USA market

In 2020, ROBERT® received the U.S. FDA approval and later the first three units were sold and shipped to the USA market.

In the same year, a total of 6 installations were concluded on the Danish market.

2021
Reaching new milestones for ROBERT®

Life Science Robotics carried out the first installation on the German market, continuing with signing 4 new installation agreements with large and reputable German hospitals and clinics over a record period of just 3 weeks.

After establishing a strong collaboration on the Asian market, the first two shipments to Asia were conducted, to Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Also, the company reached the 10 installations milestone in Denmark within 2021.
