Life Science Robotics is proud to announce the official launch of ARUS®, a robotic solution for ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, this week at NNFM 2025 – Nordic Network of Fetal Medicine. The annual event brings together fetal medicine specialists and imaging professionals from across the Nordic countries to share and explore the latest advancements in the field.
ARUS® is a robot-assisted ultrasound solution developed to support sonographers in performing scans — while addressing one of the most important challenges in sonography: work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs).
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders continue to impact the majority of sonographers worldwide. According to research, over 90% of sonographers report experiencing work-related pain with the primary contributors including:
• Repetitive application of force
• Sustained awkward arm and shoulder postures
• Prolonged scanning durations under physical strain
These injuries affect not only the health of individual clinicians, but also lead to operational disruptions such as absenteeism, increased workload for remaining staff, reduced examination throughput, and delayed patient scans.
ARUS® is designed to assist clinicians in performing ultrasound scans on pregnant patients with precision, stability, eliminating strain on sonographers. The system incorporates:
• A robotic arm controlled via a joystick with haptic feedback giving the user full control over transducer positioning
• Compatibility with all ultrasound scanners
• Adaptive pressure control, which supports consistent contact and image quality without requiring manual force
• A design that facilitates efficient scanning of high-BMI patients, a source of increased physical strain in everyday practice
Participants at NNFM 2025 had the opportunity to see ARUS® in action during live demonstrations, where clinicians could experience the robotic device firsthand.
